Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Sage Tutor ("Sage", "we", "us", "our") is operated by DM Contracting & Consulting Inc., based in Alberta, Canada. You can reach us at support@sagetutor.app.

2. Who Uses Sage

Sage accounts are created and managed by parents or legal guardians who are 18 years of age or older ("Parents"). Children use the app under their parent's account and with their parent's supervision. Sage does not allow children to create their own accounts independently.

By creating a Sage account, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and that you have parental or legal guardian authority over any children whose profiles you create in the app.

3. Information We Collect

From parents:

• Email address and password (for account creation)
• Payment information (processed securely by RevenueCat and Stripe — we do not store card details)
• Curriculum region preference

From child profiles (entered by parents):

• Child's first name
• Child's grade level
• Subject preferences and learning style (optional)
• Parent notes about the child (optional)

Generated during use:

• AI tutoring session transcripts (messages between the child and Sage)
• Homework photos submitted for analysis (processed and then discarded — not stored permanently)
• Session activity data (subjects covered, concepts practiced, session duration)
• Streak and progress data

4. How We Use This Information

• To provide AI tutoring sessions tailored to the child's grade and subject
• To generate progress reports and report cards for parents
• To remember session context so Sage can build on prior learning
• To operate subscriptions and process payments
• To improve the quality of Sage's tutoring (using aggregated, anonymized data only)
• To send important service communications to parents (no marketing without consent)

5. Children's Privacy (COPPA & PIPEDA)

We take children's privacy seriously and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

• Children's profiles are created and controlled exclusively by parents
• We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent
• We do not show advertising to children
• We do not sell children's data to any third party, ever
• Parents may request deletion of their child's data at any time (see Section 9)

6. AI Processing

Sage uses Anthropic's Claude AI to power tutoring sessions. Session content is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this processing: anthropic.com/privacy.

Session transcripts are stored on our secure servers to provide session memory and generate progress reports. We do not use individual session transcripts to train AI models.

7. Data Storage and Security

All data is stored on encrypted servers hosted by DigitalOcean in Toronto, Canada. We use industry-standard security practices including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit.

Homework photos are processed for text extraction and are not stored permanently on our servers after the session ends.

8. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Sage:

• Anthropic — AI processing for tutoring sessions
• RevenueCat — subscription management
• Stripe — payment processing
• Google Cloud — voice-to-text and text-to-speech
• Firebase — push notifications

We do not share personal data with any other third parties except as required by law.

9. Your Rights and Data Deletion

As a parent, you have the right to:

• Access all data associated with your account and your children's profiles
• Correct or update any information
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Request a copy of your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@sagetutor.app. We will respond within 30 days. Account deletion can also be performed directly within the app in Settings.

10. Data Retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. Session transcripts are retained to power progress reports and report cards. Upon account deletion, all personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify parents of material changes by email and by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
